Ballet School – Heartbeat Overdrive

It’s fair to say that when starting university admitting to being a huge fan of pop music was a big no-no, the idea was to like ridiculous house music, the more obscure the better. Hopefully it will be different for those people starting this September as Ballet School are certainly paving the way for a change to blissful pop. Their debut single Heartbeat Overdrive can only be described as a pop masterpiece that sounds as though it has burst straight out of the 80s. The trio who are based in Berlin describe themselves as graceful 21st century pop, I would call them a manifestation of the three way love child of Madonna, Prince and Cyndi Lauper but I think we’re certainly on the same page.
Heartbeat Overdrive features a simply brilliant combination of Rosie’s soaring vocals with Louis’ innovative drumming wonderfully knitted together by Michel’s glacial guitar. I don’t tend to get outrageously addicted to songs but this is most definitely an exception as I have quite frankly been unable to stop listening to this track for the past week. Ballet School have already deservedly had coverage on BBC Radio 1 and I for one am expecting more success for this stunning band. If 2013 is going to provide more pop gems like this then I am ever so excited.

Catch Ballet School at the Shacklewell Arms, London on the 23rd August for their single launch. It’s sure to be an irresistible night of pop perfection.

Brand New Oberhofer – You + Me (Still Together In The Future)

It’s hard to listen to the jangly, upbeat, noisefest that is Oberhofer without a smile on your face. Fronted by the ever energetic Brad, this band are heaps of fun live with their energetic sets yet also manage to project this through into their recorded music.
The release of their 2012 album ‘Time Capsules II’ coupled with successful tours in America and Europe ensured that they were on many music fan’s radars. However they haven’t become complacent and are back in 2013 with the EP Notalgia. The latest track the band have released from this is ‘You + Me (Still Together In The Future)’ via their YouTube account to get fans excited. The track features Brad’s signature vocals blaring over crash drums and the classic Oberhofer chiming glockenspiel. The hopeful nature of the lyrics alluding to a happy future are a welcome change to much of the doom and gloom in the world and really help to cement the idea that spring is finally here with a long summer ahead.
From this wonderful teaser it seems that Notalgia is a release not to be missed. (Release date 23rd April 2013)
